Weather Causes Accidents in Rhineland-Palatinate - Winter chaos in Rhineland-Palatinate leaves used cars wrecked and roads damaged
Hazardous winter conditions have led to several accidents across Rhineland-Palatinate. Slippery roads covered in snow and ice caused crashes in both Westerwaldkreis and Südwestpfalz districts. Two incidents on Monday evening resulted in injuries and significant damage.
In Westerwaldkreis, a car skidded off a rural road and flipped over. The crash left two people with minor injuries. Their used car was so badly damaged that it was declared a total loss.
On the A8 motorway near Walshausen, a 71-year-old man lost control of his Mercedes E-Class. The car, towing a sauna barrel trailer, slid on the icy surface and overturned. It struck a guardrail, causing €50,000 in damage to the vehicle and €10,000 to the barrier. No injuries were reported in this incident. Authorities have warned that snow and ice continue to make driving conditions dangerous across the region. Multiple smaller accidents have also been linked to the poor weather.
The crashes highlight the risks of winter driving in Rhineland-Palatinate. One used car was written off, while another caused costly damage to road infrastructure. Drivers are being urged to take extra caution as icy conditions persist.
