Winnipeg Jets and Moose celebrate Indigenous culture with WASAC and FYD games this month

The Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose are set to host their eighth annual WASAC and FYD games later this month. The events, taking place on January 24 and 25 at Canada Life Centre, will celebrate Indigenous culture while supporting youth initiatives. Fans will have the chance to win exclusive jerseys and participate in special auctions during the festivities.

The weekend kicks off on January 24 with the Winnipeg Jets WASAC Night game at 6 p.m. against the Detroit Red Wings. The evening will feature Indigenous performances and traditional cuisine, offering a vibrant showcase of local culture.

The following day, the Manitoba Moose FYD Day takes place at 2 p.m. against the Grand Rapids Griffins. Indigenous youth from northern and remote communities will attend, with cultural performances continuing throughout the match. Before the games, True North Sports + Entertainment will hold a cheque presentation and jersey unveiling on January 21 at 2:30 p.m. The Royal Canadian Legion will donate funds to WASAC, while also revealing the special Winnipeg Jets WASAC and Manitoba Moose FYD jerseys. These team-issued, autographed jerseys will later be auctioned, alongside additional online sales. Fans can also enter a raffle for a chance to win a Moose FYD jersey by purchasing tickets at Moose home games or online. Beyond jerseys, an original artwork by Anishinaabe woodlands artist Blake Angeconeb, titled Gaa-ishpaasing, will be auctioned to support WASAC. On January 24 and 25, Indigenous youth will take part in immersive programming, including skating sessions with alumni, food and nutrition workshops, and mental wellness activities. WASAC and FYD merchandise is available at Jets Gear stores and online at truenorthshop.com.

The WASAC and FYD games bring together hockey, culture, and community support. Proceeds from jersey auctions, raffles, and artwork sales will directly benefit Indigenous youth programmes. The events also provide a platform for young participants to engage with mentors and cultural traditions.
