Ferrand-Prévot Secures Historic Victory in 2025 Tour de France Femmes

The 2025 Tour de France Femmes concluded on a thrilling note this Sunday in Châtel, with French rider Pauline Ferrand-Prévot securing a dominant victory in the race. The 33-year-old, who races for Canyon-SRAM, won her second stage in a row and became the first home winner in the history of the Tour de France Femmes.

Ferrand-Prévot's performance was nothing short of spectacular, particularly on the queen stage to Col de la Madeleine and the final stage. Her dominant ride secured her the coveted yellow jersey, finishing over three and a half minutes ahead of runner-up Demi Vollering.

Vollering, from FDJ–Suez, finished second overall and also took second place on the final stage. Her consistent performance and effective teamwork with Juliette Labous helped secure the team classification for FDJ–Suez.

Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney, the defending champion, finished third overall, maintaining her consistent record of top-3 Tour de France Femmes results. Sarah Gigante, once second in GC, lost significant time on the descent of Col de Joux Plane on the final stage, dropping to sixth overall and off the podium.

Other classification winners included Lorena Wiebes, who won the green jersey (points classification), Elise Chabbey, who won the polka-dot jersey (Queen of the Mountains), and Nienke Vinke, who took the white jersey (best young rider).

The race, the longest edition yet, spanning nine days and 1,168km, was marked by intense competition, strategic racing, and a significant French triumph. UAE Team ADQ ended the race among the most successful teams, with Maëva Squiban's stage wins and Dominika Włodarczyk's fourth place overall.

Squiban's stage wins came in Ambert and Chambéry, following a 32km solo ride and starting the race from kilometre zero, respectively. Ferrand-Prévot's solo ride to the top of the Madeleine was unmatched by her GC rivals.

Brittany, a heartland of French cycling, hosted the Grand Départ for the first time, attracting huge crowds of French fans who packed the roadsides and waved Breton flags. Kim Le Court-Pienaar, a Mauritian rider racing for AG Insurance-Soudal, achieved two firsts in the race, winning a stage and holding the yellow jersey.

Lorena Wiebes proved unbeatable in the sprints, winning stages 3 and 4 of the Tour de France Femmes. Notable withdrawals and incidents, including Olympic champion Kristen Faulkner abandoning due to illness and crashes, added to the race's drama.

The final stages were decisive in shaking up the GC, with the descents and teamwork playing crucial roles in final placements. Kim Le Court-Pienaar’s tactical stage win on Stage 5, positioning herself as an early contender, was one such example.

This historic French victory marks a significant milestone in the Tour de France Femmes, with Ferrand-Prévot becoming the first French winner of the race since Bernard Hinault (1985) and Jeannie Longo (1989 for the women's Tour). The 2025 edition of the Tour de France Femmes was indeed a race to remember.
