Ryan's official Instagram account shared the sad news that Ryan had been battling interstitial lung disease (ILD) for the past week, spending his final days on a life support machine in the ICU. Ryan wrote, "He fought every day. He was strong and brave and never complained."
Lane, a versatile vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist, teamed up with McCartney in 1971 to form Wings. Together, they won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group for the title track of their third album "Band on the Run" in 1975. They later claimed another Grammy for "Rockestra Theme" in 1979 for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
Before joining Wings, Lane was a founding member of The Moody Blues, playing with the popular rock band from 1964 to 1965.
In a heartfelt tribute on Tuesday, McCartney paid homage to his late bandmate. "I have many fond memories of my time with Danny, starting with the early Beatles tours with The Moody Blues," McCartney wrote. "He was a brilliant singer and guitarist."
McCartney went on to praise Lane's humor "He had a great sense of humor and was always ready to help others," he added. "All of his fans will miss him, and his friends will deeply miss him."
