Wine Victory Celebration on the Rhine: 126 victorious bottles of wine

The 48th Rheingau Wine Week, a celebration of the region's renowned Rieslings, saw an unexpected highlight this year - an unofficial wine battle at booth 50. Four notable personalities, Stefan Blöcher, school principal Dr. Gerhard Obermayer, Master Baker Kai Schröder, and volleyball boss Christopher Fetting, took part in this friendly competition.

The event, which attracted a sea of people, was a lively affair, with the audience thirsty, laughing, and generous. The wine battle, a niche tradition not widely covered in popular sources, saw Stefan Blöcher emerge as the top seller, with over 50 bottles sold.

Otto Barth Junior, who defended his title in the wine battle, aimed to sell 100 bottles in 120 minutes. However, the competition was fierce, and he ended up selling an impressive 128 bottles, a record corrected later by Julia Anderton. Dr. Gerhard Obermayr also made a notable contribution, selling 12 wine bottles without rose accompaniment.

Two new wine estates participated in the Rheingau Wine Week, adding to the diversity of the event. A traditional family business from Hochheim and a young winemaking project from Geisenheim joined the festivities, offering attendees a taste of the future as well as the past.

As Wiesbaden continues to be the wine hotspot of Germany until Sunday, the Rheingau Wine Week offers students, like those at the young winemaking project in Geisenheim, the opportunity to make their own wine. Over 100 images documented the wine battle, capturing the spirit and excitement of this unique event.
