Storm Bernd Causes Damage in Düsseldorf, Fire Department and THW Respond

Düsseldorf faced the brunt of storm Bernd on Thursday, with wind speeds reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour. The city saw numerous weather-related incidents, with the Düsseldorf Fire Department responding to 62 such incidents on Monday alone.

The day's first deployment was reported around 15:12, when the fire department was called to address loose parts of the outer cladding on Moskauer Straße in Oberbilk. The high-angle rescue team was deployed to secure and partially remove the loose facade parts.

In another incident, a birch tree fell from a private property onto Hohenfriedbergstraße in Eller, damaging two parked cars. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

One of the most significant incidents occurred in Kalkum, where a tree fell over the street and the Anger. The fire department, equipped with a chainsaw, winch, and crane, successfully removed the tree, allowing water to flow freely again. However, the branches of the tree on the road were quickly cleared, but the other part of the tree blocked the Anger.

Elsewhere in the city, a promotional banner detached from a building on Uerdinger Straße in Golzheim. The fire department, along with the police, documented the damage.

The last storm-related deployment was reported to the control center around 19:30, marking the end of a challenging day for the emergency services. As the storm subsided, the number of deployments decreased significantly.

It's worth noting that the organization involved in multiple locations in Düsseldorf due to collapses and damage caused by storm Sabine was the Technisches Hilfswerk (THW), the Federal Agency for Technical Relief, which assists in such emergency situations.

Despite the damage and incidents, no further details about injuries, property damage, or promotional banners were mentioned in this paragraph. The city of Düsseldorf, however, will continue to recover and rebuild in the aftermath of the storm.
