Wind and ice knock out power for 2,300 in north Fulton County

A power outage struck north Fulton County early on Monday, leaving around 2,300 customers without electricity. The affected area included the Roswell Police Department, apartment buildings, and hotels near Old Holcomb Bridge Road. Strong winds and heavy ice are believed to have caused the disruption.

The outage began at approximately 4 a.m., when the Roswell Police Department lost power. Nearby businesses and residential buildings were also impacted. Service was restored by 6 a.m., bringing the blackout to around two hours.

A separate incident occurred the day before, when a tree fell onto spare patrol cars in the department's parking lot. The collapse damaged three vehicles, though no injuries were reported. Wind gusts and ice-laden branches likely contributed to the tree's fall.

Georgia Power's historical data shows that most customers regain electricity within 4–12 hours after wind or tree-related outages. However, severe events—such as Hurricane Michael and Hurricane Ida—have previously taken 1–3 days for full restoration.

The outage affected a small but densely populated area, including police facilities and local businesses. While power was quickly restored, the incident follows a weekend of wind-related damage in the region. No further disruptions have been reported since Monday morning.
