Wimbledon Champions Bet a Cool 3.06 Million Bucks

This year's Wimbledon champs pocket a sweet 3,06 million bucks, with the total purse climbing to 49.4 million bucks from 44.2 million bucks, a 11.8% jump. Even the losers in the qualifying and early rounds get a 13k boost to their pay.

Last year, Novak Djokovic and Angelique Kerber took home 2,93 million bucks as champs. The US Open remains the richest tournament, with 3,89 million bucks going to the singles champ.

Tidbits

Wimbledon's Court 1 is getting a retractable roof for the 2019 tournament. Wimbledon's organizer, AELTC, is stoked about the tournament's growth and the chances for the Park Golf Club near Wimbledon. They've invested in the grounds, facilities, staff, Lawn Tennis Association's surplus, and future leadership planning.

The ticket market for a five-year premium Wimbledon ticket (debenture ticket) is pricey due to its exclusivity and perks, such as VIP lounges and fancy bars, but exact prices vary based on demand and seat location.

The Australian Open also saw a prize money boost, sending the minimum payout for qualifying players to AU$132,000 and increasing payouts exponentially as the tournament progresses. Losers in the early rounds see their bankrolls grow as well with the first-round winners taking home AU$82,731 and first-round qualifying winners pocketing AU$21,936.
