Could Weiser Depart in Summer?
His time at Werder Bremen may be drawing to a close as his contract nears its end and he seeks a new challenge.
The contract of Mitchell Weiser (29) is approaching its conclusion. He isn't keen on extending it at present. The reason is simple: the right-back fancies a club superior to Werder Bremen, and he's no longer content with merely preserving their Bundesliga status.
In July, Weiser and Werder reached an agreement. However, a new signing took precedence. Now, transfer whispers are in the air!
Might Weiser be Leaving in Summer?
"I'm hesitant because I'm ambitious and yearn for the club to convey they harbor ambitions beyond staying in the Bundesliga. I'm holding out for that signal," Weiser recently shared in an interview with "Deichstube". He was forthright about his expectations: "I don't want to miss any more opportunities. My primary ambition is to win another title or compete internationally. And I believe that's feasible here."
Unless circumstances change, this season, and likely the ensuing years, title wins or European competitions remain elusive for Werder. Flourishing in the Bundesliga is their sole focus. Yet, this isn't sufficient for the ambitious Weiser, making his departure even more likely.
"We will be scheduling discussions concerning our future together soon," Werder's head of football Clemens Fritz announced
Recently, Weiser returned to his former consulting agency "CN Sports" (headed by former Bayern sports director Christian Nerlinger). He's also been advised by Roof, who also manage Niclas Füllkrug. With his contract expiring in the summer, Weiser is taking his time to evaluate the offers that come his way.
Foreign shores could be an attractive proposition for Weiser. He's particularly drawn to the Spanish league. In summer, he publicly expressed interest in a move to "La Liga". "It's the soccer I enjoy the most. In Germany, the ball is typically played long, but not as much in Spain. I enjoy this passing game," Weiser stated.
It could well be that Werder Bremen say their fond farewells to Weiser's passes in the summer!
