Will Jayden Daniels participate in the upcoming games for the Commanders and Raiders?
Raiders and Commanders Square Off in Week 3
The National Football League (NFL) season continues with an exciting matchup between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Both teams, currently standing at 1-1, are looking to bounce back after losses against elite opponents.
For the Raiders, quarterback Geno Smith has had a challenging start to the season, with three interceptions and no successful passes over 10 yards. If the team's reigning AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Jayden Daniels, is unable to play due to a knee injury, backup Marcus Mariota would start for the first time since 2022.
Daniels led the Commanders to a 12-5 record last season and a trip to the NFC title game. However, his status for Sunday's game is questionable. If he is indeed unable to play, Marcus Mariota will likely represent the Washington Commanders as the backup quarterback and start in his place.
The Commanders have not recorded any takeaways this season, but linebacker Bobby Wagner believes that getting turnovers is a matter of mindset. He stated, "It's about thinking about it and making it happen."
Defensively, the Commanders will be without starting defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr., who is out for the rest of the season, and cornerback Jonathan Jones, who has gone on injured reserve.
On the other hand, the Raiders are preparing for both Daniels and Mariota. Star defender Maxx Crosby mentioned, "We're just focusing on our game plan and making sure we're ready for whatever they throw at us."
In the running game, the Commanders will be without starting running back Austin Ekeler for the season. Rookie Jacory "Bill" Croskey-Merritt, a seventh-round pick, might get the start in his absence. Croskey-Merritt had 10 runs for 82 yards and a touchdown against the Giants.
Ashton Jeanty, the No. 6 overall pick in the NFL draft, is averaging 2.7 yards per carry for the Raiders. He has expressed his readiness for increased carries and touches.
Pete Carroll, the Raiders' head coach, and Dan Quinn, the Commanders' head coach, have a history together, with Quinn serving as defensive coordinator under Carroll with the Seattle Seahawks. Carroll mentioned that he enjoys competing against people he knows, and he likes Dan Quinn in particular.
