Wildcard entry for Struff in the upcoming tournament

Get Ready for Grass Tennis Action in Stuttgart!

Gear up for the upcoming Boss Open tennis tournament in Stuttgart, where top-tier players like Jan-Lennard Struff and Alexander Zverev are set to vie for glory on the lush grass courts.

Struff, a native of Sauerland, was the runner-up in this tournament two years ago and could benefit from a wildcard in his quest to prepare for Wimbledon. After slipping to the 87th spot in the world rankings, the 35-year-old wouldn't have qualified for the main draw otherwise.

Scheduled from June 9 to June 15, this year’s tournament offers a total prize money of 751,630 euros.

Struff's 2023 ThrillerIn 2023, Struff reached the final of the grass event on the Weissenhof but was edged out by American Frances Tiafoe in a nail-biter. This year, Tiafoe and fellow Americans Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, and Ben Shelton, Italians Lorenzo Musetti and Matteo Berrettini, and Australian Nick Kyrgios are slated to play.

A wildcard has also been given to up-and-coming Brazilian star João Fonseca, with the decision on a wildcard for 17-year-old German prodigy Justin Engel for the qualifying or main draw pending.

Question Marks over ZverevThough Zverev has signed a contract with the tournament organizers, it's uncertain if he'll compete in Stuttgart this year. In recent times, the Hamburg native has often withdrawn post-success at the French Open, such as reaching the semifinals. The clay-court Grand Slam tournament in Paris concludes on June 8, just a day before the Stuttgart tournament kickoff on grass.

Back in 2024, Zverev missed out on his first Grand Slam title in the final. Tournament director Edwin Weindorfer commented, "You can't blame Sascha Zverev—or us," regarding Zverev's subsequent late withdrawal. If Zverev reaches the final again, Weindorfer expects yet another withdrawal. Last time Zverev played on the Weissenhof was in 2019, where he lost his opening match.

Struff will aim to regain his form on the lush grass courts, having reached the final of the grass event on the Weissenhof in 2023 but losing to Frances Tiafoe.

The upcoming Boss Open tennis tournament in Stuttgart will not only host top-tier players like Struff but also include upcoming talents such as João Fonseca and potential wildcard Justin Engel, expanding the spectacle of sports, particularly tennis, in the event.
