"Wike Threatens FCT Employees, Asserting Permission for Protests Everywhere, and Vows Not to Be Intimidated by Blackmail"

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), made a declaration on Thursday during the flag-off of the construction of Arterial Road N1. The Minister addressed security reports of a planned demonstration against his style of governance, stating that demonstrations are allowed and he cannot be intimidated or blackmailed by anyone.

Wike also responded to claims that he is focusing on road projects while ignoring the health sector of the FCT. He emphasized that the Arterial Road N1 construction is not for personal gain, but to open up economic activities and improve the welfare of the people. The Minister further stated that a sum of ₦25 billion has been earmarked for health in the FCT's 2025 budget.

According to Wike, health workers in the FCT are planning a protest against him over perceived neglect. However, the Minister did not specify the nature of the perceived neglect. He did mention that health workers in the FCT are allegedly being owed allowances.

Wike is currently constructing Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II, Abuja. The construction of this road is being undertaken by the Minister himself. The Minister also noted that they have recently appointed an acting Head of service in the FCT.

The FCT budget for 2025, including the capital budget for health, was only approved by the National Assembly in July. It is important to note that Wike stated that the DSS informed him of claims that they are paying attention to roads and not to health.

Wike did not mention any specific response to the planned demonstration in his earlier statement. However, he did reject claims that he is being blackmailed or intimidated by anyone regarding the planned demonstration against his style of governance.

The Minister's statement comes at a time when the FCT is experiencing a surge in development, with various projects underway to improve the infrastructure and welfare of its residents. The construction of Arterial Road N1 is a significant step towards achieving this goal, as it will facilitate easier movement of people and goods within the territory.
