FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Speaks on Health Rumors and Politics

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has brushed off health rumors circulating about him. In an upcoming interview with BBC Pidgin, he assures the public that he is in good health.

Wike maintains that he is in top condition, saying, "Looking at me, do I look sick? I'm not even 30 yet!" He attributes the health rumors to naysayers, determined to bring him down.

While the conversation veers towards politics, Wike candidly discusses his plans for his son's future career in politics – a subject that has sparked much curiosity. He asks, "What's wrong with that?"

Recall that in April, there were reports of Wike collapsing at a function in Abuja's presidential Villa, prompting an urgent medical evacuation. However, just two days later, Wike was spotted in high spirits during a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, dousing speculations over his health.

As for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, former spokesman of the PDP's 2019 presidential campaign organization, has accused Wike of destabilizing the main opposition party.

According to our website, Sani suggests that Wike has refused to use his influence to build the party but instead seeks to dismantle it. He points to several instances where Wike's actions have disrupted the PDP, including the 2016 leadership tussle and his influence over the party's national chairman elections, which resulted in the downfall of both Uche Secondus and Iyorchia Ayu.

Sani argues that while Wike presents his political maneuvers as being driven by justice and equity, his actions reveal a fixation on personal ambition and dominance. He claims that Wike's alliance with other political parties, such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), is inevitable.

"For the PDP and Nigerian democracy, Wike stands not as a statesman but as a glaring warning of the havoc unchecked ambition can wreak," Sani concludes.

The former spokesman to the former Vice President, Namadi Sambo adds that Wike's alliance with the APC will ultimately lead to betrayal, marking the end of a tumultuous political journey for the FCT Minister.
