In a significant turn of events, Sumaiya Tahmid Zafrin, wife of Major Sadikul Haque, has given a confessional statement in court regarding her alleged involvement in a secret meeting organized by activists of the banned outfit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

The meeting, which took place on July 8, 2025, at KB Convention Centre, adjacent to Bashundhara Residential Area, was attended by approximately 300 to 400 people, including leaders and activists of Awami League and BCL, as well as some retired government officials. The case alleges that the meeting aimed to hatch conspiracies against the government, with the ultimate goal of creating unrest in the capital by laying siege to the Shahbagh area, paving the way for Sheikh Hasina's return to the country.

The case was filed on July 13, 2025, by Sub-inspector Jyotirmoy Mondal of Bhatara Police Station. Sumaiya Tahmid Zafrin was detained by the Detective Branch of police on August 6, 2025, from Mirpur DOHS area in Dhaka. Her five-day remand started on August 7, and after that, she gave the confessional statement in court on August 12, 2025.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah placed Zafrin, 26, under a five-day remand on 7 August in the same case. The investigating officer, DB Gulshan Division Inspector Md Jehad Hossain, requested the court to record Zafrin's confessional statement as she had voluntarily agreed to give it. The confessional statement was recorded by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farjana Haque on 12 August.

Following the recording of the confessional statement, Zafrin was ordered to be sent to jail after being produced before the court at the end of her five-day remand. The latest update on the case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act involving Sumaiya Tahmid Zafrin is that she has provided crucial information regarding the alleged secret meeting and the conspiracies that were being planned against the government.
