Hollywood Agent's Son's Wife's Mysterious Death Investigated
Recently confirmed by the coroner, Mellie Haskell passed away on November 8. This news followed reports by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, which released documents online on Monday, indicating her body was found in a Los Angeles dumpster. The documents, however, did not detail how authorities determined her death.
Mellie's husband, Samuel Haskell, was arrested last month following the discovery of a torso in a dumpster, which police later identified as belonging to Mei Li Haskell. The Haskell family, which includes their children and parents, resides in Los Angeles.
At the time of discovery, the torso had not been identified, but authorities suspected that it belonged to Mei Li Haskell. Her parents, Li Gaoshan (71) and Wang Yanxiang (64), were reported missing, but Haskell was charged with three murder cases in connection with her parents' deaths and Mei Li's demise.
The Medical Examiner's Office documents suggest an investigation into Mellie's death, but they do not specify a cause of death. CNN requested a statement from Los Angeles police regarding the case, but they were unable to provide one. As for Haskell's current lawyer, CNN is still seeking to identify him.
Haskell, 35, is being held without bail.
Haskell is the son of Emmy award-winning producer and Hollywood agent, Sam Haskell. Known for representing celebrities such as Kathie Lee Gifford, Whoopi Goldberg, Dolly Parton, George Clooney, and others, Sam Haskell's career spans decades.
Investigations Reveal Bizarre Circumstances
Prosecutors claimed that on November 7, Haskell hired day laborers to remove heavy black plastic trash bags from his Tarzana, Los Angeles home. One of the bags contained human remains, sparking an investigation. According to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office, one of the workers called 911 to report the gruesome find.
Surveillance footage showed Haskell transporting a large garbage bag to a nearby dumpster on November 7. On November 8, a person rummaging through another dumpster discovered the woman's upper body within a bag.
Police discovered bloodstains within the Haskell house
LA Police reported that following the torso tip-off, they developed leads that led them to Haskell's residence. The exact nature of these leads is unclear. At a November press conference, LA Police Officer Efren Gutierrez revealed that police had found "bloodstains and other suspicious items" within the Haskell residence, as reported by CNN's KABC.
The Haskell family resided in the property, which included Samuel, his wife, their children, and his in-laws. The LA Police confirmed that the children had been located and were being cared for by family members.
