Wife of former Sochi mayor accused of bribe-taking
In April, the legal proceedings against Yania, the spouse of ex-Sochi Mayor Alexei Kopaygorodsky, escalated with charges of bribery mediation and witness tampering, as reported by RIA Novosti.
The court session unveiled that these accusations were lodged against Kopaygorodskaya on April 14.
The ex-first lady of Sochi is suspected of committing offenses under:
- Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code - organized embezzlement;
- Part 4 of Article 291.1 (three counts) - intermediation in bribery on an especially large scale;
- Part 2 of Article 309 (two counts) - witness bribery.
Back in September 2023, Alexei Kopaygorodsky was arrested on embezzlement charges, and, a few months later in November, Yania was placed under house arrest. In March 2024, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow decided to change her restraint measure from house arrest to detention.
A fresh criminal case was launched against the ex-mayor in December 2023, with the ongoing investigation alleging that he received a bribe, disguised as property services, exceeding 43 million rubles, through his wife in November 2023.
The Kopaygorodsky family's properties, along with associated assets, were seized in October 2023.
