Wiesbaden's Caligari Cinema Revives with Art-Inspired Film Series Don't Think, Look!
The Caligari cinema in Wiesbaden has reopened its doors with a new film series titled Don't Think, Look!. The programme kicks off with The Half-Soft, a 1950s-set drama exploring family dynamics between tradition and change. Tickets for the screening start at €6.00, with the event taking place on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 8:00 PM. The series centres on Austrian artist Wolfgang Hollegha, whose works are currently on display at the nearby Museum Reinhard Ernst. Hollegha's journey began with studies of Styrian landscapes before shifting to bold, abstract compositions. His signature style—gestural brushwork, vibrant colours, and fluid forms—transforms real-world observations into timeless expressions. After relocating to New York in 1959, he gained acclaim alongside major postwar American artists, all while staying true to his guiding principle: Think not, look!
*The Half-Soft* mirrors themes found in Hollegha's art: freedom, rhythm, and the tension between old and new. The screening will feature an introduction by art historian Eva Authried, linking the film to the exhibition's themes. Located at Marktpl. 9, 65183 Wiesbaden, the Caligari Film Stage aims to foster dialogue and discovery through its curated programme.
The event offers a chance to engage with both cinema and contemporary art. The Half-Soft screens on April 7, with further films in the series set to explore similar creative intersections. Admission remains affordable, starting at €6.00 per ticket.
