German Beach Volleyball Duo Recovering Well and Aiming High After Olympic Success

Following their silver medal victory at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the German beach volleyball pair of Clemens Wickler and Nils Ehlers have shown a remarkable resurgence and continued competitive ambition.

The duo, who have been making headlines since their Olympic triumph, recently made a significant statement at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite event in Gstaad, Switzerland. In July 2025, they upset the top-ranked Norwegian team Mol/Sørum, reaching the quarterfinals and demonstrating a return to top form [1].

Despite an early pool play loss at the same event, Ehlers and Wickler rebounded with consecutive wins, echoing their Olympic-level performance [1]. Their activity on social media as of mid-2025 indicates ongoing engagement with fans and professional commitment [4].

As they look ahead, Ehlers and Wickler seem focused on maintaining and building upon their competitive status within the international beach volleyball circuit. Their future plans likely include continued pursuit of international titles and Olympic preparation. Their ability to defeat highly ranked opponents like Mol/Sørum signals strong future prospects [1].

In a bid to keep their momentum going, the pair changed their coaching team in May, bringing on Alexander Prietzel and Helke Claasen as their new coaches, with Thorsten Weidig as the sports psychologist [2].

The European Championships, which will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany, will be a significant test for Ehlers and Wickler. They have set their sights on making it onto the podium, which would directly qualify them for the World Championships [3]. The location of the World Championships is Adelaide, Australia, and is scheduled for November [5].

However, the duo admits they didn't take enough time to fully process their Olympic successes. Wickler felt that every game and training session seemed easy after Paris, and he wanted to take that feeling into the new season and put himself under pressure to perform. Ehlers, on the other hand, developed a harmful mindset, identifying extremely with the result in Paris and expecting to always be at the top [6].

Despite these challenges, Ehlers is optimistic, stating that every tournament starts at 0:0 for him and Wickler. They are looking forward to the home advantage at the European Championships in Düsseldorf and are determined to prove their mettle once again on the international stage.

In their quest to excel beyond their Olympic success, Clemens Wickler and Nils Ehlers are actively seeking community aid for their research and development, focusing on enhancing their skills and strategies in beach volleyball. As they prepare for the European Championships in Düsseldorf, they aspire to combine their love for sports, particularly football, with their volleyball training, believing it may provide an edge in their performances.
