Thompson recently shared his reasons for staying off platforms like Instagram and TikTok at a Theatrical Guild event in London. He described social media as 'catnip'—something that would consume his attention and disrupt his focus. Instead of seeking validation online, he chooses self-preservation.
Most of the *Bridgerton* cast, including Nicola Coughlan, Luke Newton, and Jonathan Bailey, have embraced social media between 2021 and 2026. They use it for fan interactions, behind-the-scenes content, and personal branding. Thompson, however, sees these platforms as distorting reality by amplifying extreme opinions and creating a false sense of importance. He also admitted that managing phone use is difficult for everyone, including himself.
