Tyrrell Hatton's Golfing Journey with His Pals as Caddies

Golfing sensation, Tyrrell Hatton, a man known for his charisma and impressive wins, boasts a record of 13 professional victories and two Ryder Cup triumphs since his 2011 professional debut.

His caddie roster has been surprisingly small, with transitions from Chris Rice to childhood chum, Jonathan Bell in the summer of 2017, followed by Scotsman Mark Crane the next year[1]. Hatton shared that the brief stint with Rice ended due to the strain it placed on their friendship[2].

Crane, who goes by the persona 'Punk,' had previously teamed up with golfers like Paul Casey, Chris Wood, and David Horsey, but found one of his peak weeks at Hatton's side when they clinched the 2018 Ryder Cup as part of Team Europe at Le Golf National.

However, by the time Hatton claimed victory at the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational, Crane had been replaced by another Scotsman, Mick Donaghy. Donaghy joined the team in 2019, guiding Hatton to multiple professional wins and a career-high fifth place in the world ranking over the subsequent years[1].

A skilled looper with over three decades of experience, Donaghy had previously partnered with players like Jesper Parnevik and Jamie Donaldson. A brief swap took place in 2023 when Brian 'Bo' Martin stepped in due to an injury at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play[1].

Yet, in a twist of events early in 2024, Hatton and Donaghy parted ways permanently. Donaghy missed out on accompanying Hatton at The Masters due to a fall. The incident left Hatton seeking the assistance of a familiar face, his friend and former PGA EuroPro Tour player, Hugo Dobson[3].

At The Masters, Dobson stepped in for Donaghy, much like he did in 2019. This partnership has proved successful, with Hatton claiming his maiden LIV Golf title in Nashville in June 2024, landing a third Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in October of that same year, and triumphing at the Dubai Desert Classic a few weeks into the 2025 campaign[1][2][3].

Dobson and Hatton's friendship dates back to when Hatton was 14 years old[4]. Talking about the duo, Hatton shared that Dobson ignores him when he loses his temper on the course[3]. The Legion XIII player commented that Dobson "turns deaf for a minute or two" as he knows there's no reasoning with Hatton at those moments[3].

Hatton says Dobson plays the role of an understanding ally, serving as his confidant both on and off the golf course[4].
