The World Health Organization (WHO) lashed out at Israel for allegedly damaging the Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus voiced his concerns on social media platforms, claiming that eight patients, including a nine-year-old child, had perished due to inadequate medical care as a result of the hospital's destruction.
Israel swiftly rejected the accusations, maintaining that Hamas had previously established a presence within the Kamal Adwan Hospital. Before entering the premises, a dialogue involving medical personnel was conducted. The Israeli army permitted a humanitarian corridor and facilitated the evacuation of most of the hospital before operations.
Monitored discussions on various platforms, such as X and X-Post Military Israel, reveal differing perspectives on the situation. The Israeli Permanent Mission to the United Nations asserted that several dozen civilians had refused to leave the surrounding area despite warnings and requests for evacuation. Consequently, 90 suspected militants were apprehended, and the Israeli army targeted the militants' infrastructure, discovering hidden weaponry and intelligence documents in areas like hospital incubators.
Tedros addressed the crisis on social media, expressing concern over the alleged arrest of numerous health workers. Furthermore, he highlighted the hazardous self-evacuation of patients, who jeopardized their well-being in search of medical assistance as emergency vehicles failed to reach the facility. According to Tedros, the devastation of Kamal Adwan Hospital adds to the existing turmoil in Gaza's depleted healthcare system, as only eleven of its thirty-six hospitals remain partially operational.
Controversy swirled around the reporting by Al-Jazeera, which claimed that a bulldozer operated by the Israeli army had annihilated the makeshift tents of displaced people in the Kamal Adwan Hospital courtyard. Tragically, the incident resulted in the death of twenty individuals. Israel's military vehemently denied these allegations, asserting that it did not intentionally harm innocent civilians in the area surrounding the hospital.
