White Sox edge Mariners 2-1 on Grichuk's homer and late defensive lapses
The Chicago White Sox secured a narrow 2-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Randal Grichuk’s solo home run and a late-game error by the Mariners proved decisive in the tight contest. Mariners starter Logan Gilbert dominated early, striking out nine batters while allowing just one hit over six innings. His strong performance kept the White Sox scoreless until Randal Grichuk’s 377-foot home run cleared the right field wall in the fourth.
Seattle took an early lead when Julio Rodríguez scored in the first inning, capitalising on a fielding error by Tristan Peters. However, Chicago’s Davis Martin matched Gilbert’s effort, surrendering only one run on three hits across six innings. The game turned in the eighth. Drew Romo sprinted home on Miguel Vargas’ fly out, scoring the winning run after Randy Arozarena’s throwing error. Bryan Hudson then secured his first win of the season by shutting down the Mariners in the eighth. In the ninth, Seranthony Domínguez escaped a bases-loaded jam to earn his ninth save, sealing the White Sox’s comeback victory. Eduard Bazardo took the loss for Seattle after giving up two hits and two runs in relief.
The win moves the White Sox forward with a boost from Grichuk’s power and sharp late-game defence. For the Mariners, Gilbert’s strong outing wasn’t enough to overcome costly errors and a resilient Chicago side.
