White House preparing a grand gold-adorned ballroom for Trump's use

In an ambitious renovation project, United States President Donald Trump has announced plans to construct a new ballroom at the White House. The grandiose structure, expected to cost around $200 million, is scheduled to begin construction in September 2025 and will accommodate 650 visitors.

The ballroom, a separate 90,000 square-foot structure attached to the East Wing, will replace the current East Wing building, which dates back to 1902 and has undergone numerous renovations. The construction will be led by Clark Construction, with engineering from AECOM and McCree Architects responsible for the classical architectural design, aiming to closely match the White House's existing theme and heritage.

Trump has emphasized that the ballroom's design will feature extensive gold trim and details, similar to the style of the ballroom at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. The new ballroom is intended to enhance the White House's historic function as a venue for large formal events, which until now have often required large tents on the South Lawn.

Regarding funding, the $200 million cost will be covered by President Trump and other "patriot donors," with no direct spending from taxpayers. The United States Secret Service will oversee necessary security enhancements for the new space.

The East Wing, where the ballroom will be located, traditionally houses the offices of the First Lady. This renovation marks another significant change in the White House, following the redesign of the Rose Garden, with the lawn being paved, and the erection of two tall flagpoles on the North and South lawns.

Trump's spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, announced the plans for the ballroom. The President expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that it will be the best of the best. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was present during Trump's description of the ballroom.

This ambitious renovation is part of ongoing White House modifications by President Trump, who claims prior presidents lacked the "real estate person" expertise to build such a ballroom. The project is the latest in a series of renovations and improvements initiated by Trump at the White House, reflecting a grand, opulent style inspired by Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate.

The European Union news outlets have reported on the unprecedented renovation project led by United States President Donald Trump, which includes the construction of a new ballroom within the White House premises. The politics surrounding this grandiose structure, expected to closely mimic the White House's existing theme and heritage while featuring extensive gold trim, have sparked debate among general-news outlets.
