Title: Outrage Over Anti-Semitic Protests at Philadelphia Falafel Shop

A group of demonstrators gathered outside renowned chef Michael Solomonov's Goldie's Falafel Shop in Philadelphia, setting off a wave of condemnation for their actions. The incident, which took place during a larger demonstration supporting Gaza and the Palestinians, saw the demonstrators waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans aimed at the shop.

The Vile Incident

The video capturing the event showed the protestors marching through the streets with Palestinian flags, repeatedly chanting, "Goldie, Goldie, you can't hide." They accused Solomonov, a Jewish and Israeli-American restaurateur, of war crimes.

The protest was part of a larger march that began at Rittenhouse Square and continued down Walnut Street, over the Walnut Street Bridge, and into College Station and West Philadelphia. There, demonstrators took part in a vigil and protested against a controversial housing project.

Preemptive Call for Protest

Before the incident, the Free Palestine Alliance of Philadelphia called on supporters to take to the streets through a post on Facebook.

The Philadelphia Police Department chose not to comment when CNN inquired about additional information.

Award-Winning Chef and Philanthropist

Solomonov is co-owner of CookNSolo Restaurant Group, which boasts several Israeli-style restaurants in Philadelphia and one in Brooklyn, New York. He has garnered several James Beard Awards for his Philadelphia venue, Zahav, and published a cookbook, Zahav: The World of Israeli Culinary, in 2015.

CookNSolo has openly donated to a charitable organization in Israel following the Hamas attack on Oct 7th.

Governor Shapiro's Rebuke

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro criticized the demonstrators, stating:

"We witnessed despicable antisemitic acts in Philadelphia tonight instead of peaceful protests. A restaurant was targeted and besieged because its owner is Jewish and Israeli. This kind of hate and bigotry brings to mind a dark chapter in history."

The White House Weighs In

The White House swiftly followed Governor Shapiro, issuing a stern condemnation of the actions:

"As Governor Shapiro noted, it's antisemitic and completely unacceptable for restaurants that offer Israeli cuisine to be put in the crosshairs for being deemed incompatible with Israeli politics. It represents a horrendous and senseless double standard, which serves as a clear symbol of antisemitism."

The Biden Administration has made fighting antisemitism a priority throughout his presidency, including spearheading the introduction of the first-ever antisemitism task force.
