In a change from tradition, Barack Obama's official White House portrait has been moved to a less visible location within the White House. This shift was made to make space for Donald Trump's own portrait and to relocate portraits of recent presidents away from prime public view.
The portrait, created by Robert McCurdy, was previously prominently displayed at the top of the Grand Staircase. However, it is now hanging in a more restricted area—a hidden stairwell or less visible location within the White House—rarely seen by the public.
This relocation has sparked debate, with some critics viewing it as a politically motivated slight, reflecting Trump's long-running feud with Obama. Supporters, on the other hand, may interpret it differently.
Interestingly, the portrait of George W. Bush, Obama's predecessor, has also been moved. It is now hanging in the same staircase as Obama's portrait, possibly signifying a change in the relationship between the two presidents' legacies.
The space vacated by the removal of Obama's portrait was filled by a famous photo of Donald Trump raising his fist after an attack. This photo, now displayed in the entrance area, required the removal of the portrait of George W. Bush from the foyer.
It's worth noting that only the president's family, Secret Service agents, and selected staff have access to the area where the Obama portrait is now located.
In a separate development, Donald Trump has accused both Barack Obama and his Republican colleague George W. Bush of attempting a "coup" and "treason" to secure Hillary Clinton's election victory in 2016. Trump has also been vocal about his criticism of Bush's policies.
