Get ready to bid adieu to the chill as Germany gears up for warmer days ahead! The meteorological service in Offenbach, known as the DWD, is predicting a surge in temperatures by the second Advent. Starting from Thursday, the southern half of Germany will be bathed in sunshine, bringing a much-needed respite.

Meanwhile, ski enthusiasts in the Black Forest and the Alps can rejoice as the mountains are set to witness the best skiing conditions yet. However, the easterly half of Germany, particularly the Ore Mountains and Bavarian Forest, may continue to be affected by winter weather, causing disruptions.

Friday will see new precipitation arriving from the west, accompanied by a chill that might result in freezing rain in some areas, leading to icy roads. In the eastern and mountainous regions, there might be fresh snowfall. As the day progresses, temperatures in the west are expected to rise to between 3-8 degrees Celsius, while the east will remain chilly with temperatures hovering between -2 to +2 degrees.

By the second weekend of Advent, double-digit temperatures are predicted in the lowlands of the west. However, the chill persists in the east, with the possibility of snow or freezing rain affecting road safety. By Sunday, the snowmen of the east will start showing signs of thawing.

Recently, Munich Airport faced delay and cancellations due to inclement weather. The airlines had preemptively adjusted their schedules in anticipation of the snowfall and icy precipitation. Autobahn GmbH, in charge of the nation's highways, has a sufficient supply of gritting materials across much of Germany, ensuring smooth roads.

Homeless individuals often suffer during cold weather, as their weakened immune systems become increasingly vulnerable. Organizations like the Federal Working Group for Homeless Assistance have increased their support services, providing cold buses and heated lounges during this challenging time.

Did you know? Thanks to its diverse geography, Germany presents a multitude of climates. Mountainous regions like the Black Forest and the Alps receive plenty of snow and chilly weather, making skiing conditions ideal. In contrast, regions along the north coast, like Bremen, may face challenges due to heavy rain, affecting the city's rail system. Hamburg, the second-largest city, enjoys a maritime climate, with around 864mm of annual precipitation.
