"What's the Most Sexually Suggestive Article of Clothing for Men?"
In the world of fashion, the line between daring and provocative can often blur. This is particularly true when it comes to men's style, as designer Aaron Levine and stylist Ian Bradley have pointed out in their recent discussions.
Aaron Levine, the creative mind behind ERL, finds a stark contrast between the function of running shorts and their potential for sluttiness. He prefers the practical aspect of the shorts, opting not to wear underwear with them. On the other hand, Levine believes that wearing short running shorts with mesh lining can be "pretty slutty."
Ian Bradley, meanwhile, has a different perspective. For him, the mid-thigh is the point where short-shorts become a slutty classic. He appreciates surfer cosplay fashion and considers low-cut cropped tees to be sensual when they reveal a peekaboo effect. However, he believes that some of the original magic of low-cut cropped tees has been lost due to their popularity among Gen Z and their wide availability on the market.
Both Levine and Bradley have identified certain fashion items that are often considered "slutty" in men's style. These include sheer or transparent shirts, tight leather pants, open or unbuttoned tops, excessive accessories, short shorts or very tight denim, and Speedos. These choices are often linked to a daring, sexually confident, and provocative aesthetic.
Interestingly, Bradley believes that these fashion choices are more associated with a specific gay culture. He points to low-cut board shorts worn really low as a truly slutty fashion choice. On the other hand, he finds an oversized button-down shirt with one button done up to feel more sensual than slutty.
In the current fashion scene, flip-flops are the season's hottest shoe for men. Status pairs of flip-flops are available from The Row and ERL, with The Row's flip-flops costing $690. The fashionable footwear was even featured in a steamy campaign shoot with naked models.
Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal made a bold statement on the red carpet with a sleeveless Calvin Klein shirt, while Alexander Skarsgård caused a stir at Cannes with his skin-tight Loewe leather trousers.
As the East Coast experiences near-record high temperatures this summer, it seems that men's fashion is embracing a more daring and provocative aesthetic. Whether this shift is a reflection of changing societal norms or a simple response to the heat remains to be seen.
