Nothing is more captivating than Union Berlin's latest addition to their coaching team
Meet Nenad Bjelica, the man set to elevate Union out of the relegation zone!
This past Sunday, Union Berlin officially introduced Nenad Bjelica (52) as their new head coach, replacing Urs Fischer (57). What caught everyone's attention at the presentation? Bjelica's unwavering confidence!
Bjelica stated, "I am fully convinced that we will soon have nothing more to do with relegation." The Croatian isn't shy about following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Fischer, who led Union from the second division to the Champions League. Bjelica confidently declared, "It's not an easy challenge, but I've been successful before. I can be just as successful as my predecessor."
Fluent in German and Familiar with the Bundesliga
Bjelica spent time as a professional in Kaiserslautern (2001-2004) and later became a coach in Austria. He now resides in Klagenfurt and speaks fluent German. After coaching in Italy and Poland, he returned to Croatia to lead Dinamo Zagreb to league victories twice and a cup win once. Currently, he's been working with Trabzonspor.

Upon his debut, Bjelica laid out his expectations for the players, "My teams play very intensely with a lot of pressing and intensity. They are very unpleasant opponents. We want to dominate, both playfully and with pace. I'm not a coach who needs fifty contacts to get a goal."
At the same time, the soccer coach assured he would adapt to Union Berlin's squad and playing philosophy, "I've always been a soldier of the club, and I will be here too."
Like Fischer, Bjelica is strict but fair with players, "I like discipline and organization on the pitch and players who do the simple things perfectly. Performance on the pitch is the greatest respect a player can give the club or coach. Those who deliver that will have my best friend. Those who don't will have problems."
Bjelica also acknowledges that while authority is necessary, the "old school" approach is outdated. "My door is open to anyone who pays back on the pitch," he stated.
Club president Dirk Zingler (59) was impressed by Bjelica during their talks, commenting, "I talk to coaches about life and values. That was a very good fit. A coach has to be able to really reach the players."
Bjelica's first challenge as Union Berlin's head coach is to secure a win in the Champions League game in Braga on Wednesday to qualify for the Europa League. This will be followed by a match against record champions Bayern.
Regarding these daunting tasks, Bjelica remains composed, "I've had difficult games like this in my career. There are three points in it, in the Champions League and also in Munich. Every game will be like that."
Though Real legend Raúl had been rumored as a potential Union Berlin coach, he ultimately decided to remain with Madrid's second team. Union manager Oliver Ruhnert (52) reveled, "We have held many talks, and not a single one of these candidates has come to light."
