Western Sydney Wanderers squander two-goal lead in dramatic A-League draw

Western Sydney Wanderers shared the points in a 2-2 draw with Wellington Phoenix on February 14, 2026. The result leaves the Wanderers at the bottom of the A-League Men table, still on 17 points. Meanwhile, Wellington climbed to 10th place, just three points behind sixth-placed Adelaide.

The Wanderers started strongly, taking a two-goal lead before half-time. Ryan Fraser opened the scoring in the 17th minute, before Phillip Cancar doubled the advantage in the 43rd. Fraser was the standout performer, creating most of Western Sydney's best chances.

The second half saw a turnaround as Wellington fought back. Bill Tuiloma pulled one back in the 68th minute, and Ifeanyi Eze levelled the score just four minutes later. The hosts also suffered a setback when star striker Bozhidar Kraev was forced off with a concussion after a collision with Wellington's Kazuki Nagasawa.

The draw keeps Western Sydney rooted to the foot of the table. Meanwhile, Wellington's rise to 10th leaves them within touching distance of the top six, with only seven points separating the leading pack.

Western Sydney's failure to hold onto their lead means they remain last in the league. Wellington, now in 10th, sit just three points off sixth place, keeping their finals hopes alive. The tight race at the top of the table continues, with little room for error in the remaining matches.
