West Texas Braces for Significant Cold Snap as Freeze Watch Issued

West Texas residents brace for a significant cold snap as the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a freeze watch. The alert is set to take effect from late Tuesday evening, lasting through early Wednesday.

The NWS warns of potential frost and freeze conditions that could harm crops, delicate plants, and unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to safeguard their pets and plants ahead of the chilly weather.

The freeze watch was issued well in advance, 36 to 48 hours before the expected temperature drop. Affected areas include Guadalupe Mountains, Davis Mountains, Marfa Plateau, and border towns near the Texas-Mexico border. Midland and Odessa are expected to experience lows near or below freezing, likely around 28-32°F (-2 to 0°C), with these frigid temperatures forecasted for the early morning hours of the coming days.

With the freeze watch in effect, West Texas residents are advised to take necessary precautions to protect their property and loved ones from the impending cold weather. Temperatures could potentially drop as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit (about -2 degrees Celsius).
