St Lucia Kings Fall Short in Qualifier 2, Guyana Advances to CPL Final
In a thrilling encounter, the St Lucia Kings came up just short in Qualifier 2 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), losing to the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 14 runs.
Khary Pierre, the West Indies Test spinner, was rested for the India series, but he made his presence felt in the CPL. Pierre, playing for the Saint Lucia Kings, was a lower-order batsman and also contributed as a bowler in the Qualifier round against Guyana.
Pierre's innings came to an end in the 17th over, with St Lucia Kings still needing 41 runs for victory. He was dismissed at a score of 117, leaving his team with a challenging target.
Despite a valiant effort from Ravi Mills, who added 26 runs for the final wicket with Imran Tahir, St Lucia Kings fell short, managing only 193 runs in their 20 overs. Mills' contribution was not enough to overturn the deficit, as Guyana had earlier posted a total of 207 runs.
Gudakesh Motie, the standout performer for Guyana, picked up 4-30 in the match. His impressive performance follows his five-wicket haul in the previous match, further cementing his status as a key player for the Amazon Warriors.
With the win, Guyana has qualified for the CPL final scheduled for September 21. The team will face the Trinbago Knight Riders in the final, with both teams aiming to lift the trophy.
