The Dreaded Thunderstorms: A Brutal Weekend Weather Update

West facing regions witnessing unyielding warmth as early as the weekend day, Sunday.

Yo, so Friday was cool and whatnot, but hold onto your umbrelas, Saturday was a harsh one for most of Germany! First came the heat, but later in the afternoon, mother nature decided to show a wilder side with a series of storms from the west and northwest, as well as over those southwestern mountains. It appears the stormy weather ain't done yet, as it'll stick around for Sunday too.

"You got it: thunderstorms, some of them wild, danced across the Eifel region to the Cologne Bay and along the Lower Rhine since the afternoon," states a rep from DWD. "These storms are moving north or northeastwards throughout the evening, with western Lower Saxony next on the hit list."

It's still unclear how long these thunderstorms will last. "We'll see if the day ends these storms or if they hold on for dear life," says the rep. Looks like we might have some late-night lightning shows too.

DWD in Offenbach warned us about some potentially messy weather, including possible hailstorms, heavy rain, and gusty winds on Saturday. Red alert: temperatures could rise to 35 degrees Celsius in some places, while it'll remain cooler in the north and northeast, between 27 and 22 degrees Celsius.

On Saturday night, there's gonna be more storm activity primarily in the western half. Expect heavy rain, sometimes over 40 liters per square meter in a short time, and sometimes up to 40 liters per square meter in a few hours, as well as hail and strong winds of up to 100 km/h at the start. The temperatures will drop to between 15 and 19 degrees Celsius, with higher city temperatures and lower temperatures in the east and southeast.

Another Stormy Sunday

Looks like those pesky thunderstorms are here to stay on Sunday, with possibly severe weather conditions in the east and south, as well as parts of the center initially. DWD issues a warning for heavy rain (over 40 mm in a short time and more than 50 liters per square meter in a few hours), large hail, and strong winds of up to 100 km/h. The heat will be relentless in the southeast, reaching up to 33 degrees Celsius, while elsewhere temperatures will hover between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius.

Luckily, the weather will calm down on Monday. The initial forecast shows partly cloudy skies, with sunny conditions soon appearing in the west. The high temperatures will reach 20 to 26 degrees Celsius by then.
