Marvin Ducksch's Future Uncertain as Werder Mulls Summer Exit
Werder Bremen may still consider transferring Ducksch as an option. - Werderoe assumes possible shift in ducksch's role
Werder Bremen may be saying goodbye to striker Marvin Ducksch this summer, according to recent reports. While his contract has been automatically extended due to games played, the club's management is open to a potential transfer for the 31-year-old forward.
Clemens Fritz, Werder's sporting director, confirmed they would discuss a move if something suitable arises. "We'll sit down and talk if something comes up. Both parties are on the same page," Fritz told "Deichstube."
Bremen in Need of Transfer Revenue
The club's decision to entertain offers for Ducksch stems from their need to generate transfer revenue this summer. Werder publicly announced they aim to acquire approximately 7.5 million euros in transfer revenues during the upcoming transfer period.
Despite the looming possibility of Ducksch's departure, he will not be leaving before the last home game against RB Leipzig this Saturday (3:15 PM/Sky). Other players, including loan players Andre Silva and Issa Kaboré, as well as Oliver Burke, Anthony Jung, Milos Veljkovic, and Abed Nankishi, will also play their final home games for Bremen.
Ducksch's Stellar Performance
Over the past four seasons, Ducksch has scored 53 goals in 132 appearances for Werder Bremen, equaling club icon Johan Micoud’s Bundesliga goal tally for the club in the past three seasons. This season, he's been the club's most productive player with 7 goals and 8 assists in 30 appearances.
Potential Suitors eying Ducksch
Werder is open to offers if a lucrative bid emerges. Speculated suitors include Greek club Panathinaikos and Turkish club Besiktas.
Coach Ole Werner Remains Calm
While rumors about Ducksch's exit have been circulating every summer, coach Ole Werner has downplayed the speculation and noted that the transfer window is still some way off. Although it's increasingly likely that Werder is preparing for life without Marvin Ducksch next season, a transfer is not yet finalized.
- The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment, as Werder Bremen's need for transfer revenue this summer might indirectly contribute to such measures, with potential acquirers of Marvin Ducksch, like Panathinaikos and Besiktas, potentially transferring revenue to Bremen.
- If Marvin Ducksch's transfer to one of his reported suitors, such as Panathinaikos or Besiktas, materializes, the revenue generated could help Werder Bremen achieve their aim of acquiring approximately 7.5 million euros in transfer revenues during the upcoming transfer period, a similar approach Bremen might take if they were to sell a 'ducksch' to other clubs seeking a forward.
- Given Marvin Ducksch's stellar performance over the past four seasons for Werder Bremen, where he scored 53 goals in 132 appearances, Bremen could be potentially Alfieri'd, as a sell-on clause might be triggered if Ducksch's transfer yielded a lucrative bid, a move similar to a transfer system operating within European-leagues, where revenue generated from roster changes can significantly impact a club's financial situation.
- Notwithstanding Marvin Ducksch's potential departure this summer, Werder Bremen is evaluating offers and will make a decision in due time, potentially in the vein of the European Commission's decision-making process when drafting a proposal for legislation, wherein thorough evaluation and consultation are crucial before reaching a final conclusion.
