Wembley Stadium reportedly in the running to host a Springboks versus Japan rugby match in the near future.
South Africa's Springboks to Face Japan at Wembley Stadium in Historic Match
The South Africa rugby team, known as the Springboks, will make a historic return to Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday, November 1, 2025. This marks the team's first appearance at Wembley in nine years, as they take on Japan's Brave Blossoms in a highly anticipated match.
The fixture is significant as it commemorates 10 years since Japan's famous upset win over South Africa at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, known as the "Miracle of Brighton." This will be the Springboks' first match on their traditional November tour, which will also see them face Ireland, Ireland in Dublin, Wales in Cardiff, and Argentina at Allianz Stadium.
Meanwhile, Japan will continue their European tour with matches against Ireland, Wales, and Georgia over the following four weekends. The Brave Blossoms will face Ireland on November 8 in London, Wales on November 15 in Cardiff, and Georgia (venue to be confirmed) on November 22.
Wembley Stadium will also host three major rugby events on the same day, as an All Blacks XV will play the touring Barbarians at Brentford, England's men will play against Australia at Allianz Stadium, and the rugby league Ashes match between England and Australia will take place a fortnight before the Japan vs South Africa match.
With a capacity of 90,000, Wembley Stadium has been an attractive venue for international rugby matches, although it has been neglected for other London stadiums for rugby union matches recently. The match between Japan and South Africa on November 1 will mark two major rugby matches in two weeks at Wembley Stadium.
The kickoff for the Japan vs South Africa match is scheduled for 16:10 local time. Wembley Stadium has been approached for comment regarding the Springboks' match, but no official statement has been released as of yet.
England's men will also be in action during the same month, taking on Serbia in a Fifa World Cup qualifier on November 13 at Wembley Stadium. The European champion Lionesses will face China on November 29 at Wembley Stadium, rounding off a busy sporting schedule for the iconic venue.
