The RYA Cymru Wales lineup kicks off with performance-oriented training and golden opportunities for youngsters to dive into instructing and coaching roles. Here's the exciting news—Location hit list: Port Dinorwic SC (North); Neyland YC (West); Llandegfedd SC and Cardiff Bay YC (South).
Sarah McGovern, Performance Manager Wales, shared the excitement: "Our mission is to ignite the next collective generation of incredible sailors with hubs that empower learning, racing, and ultimately reaching the Welsh National Sailing Team and beyond! 🏆⛵️⚓️"
She continued, "The main goal is to keep sailing affordable and accessible with home-base coaching close by. Cut costs, squash travel troubles, and tear down barriers to ensure sailing remains a no-brainer for anyone, at every level! 🌟💬🚣♂️"
As a bonus, these hubs can level up young crew members' expertise, allowing them to earn instructor and coaching certifications, securing the sustainability of sailing in the future! It's more than just a sports education; it's about building lifetime sailors and nurturing a pathway beyond post-18 for adults engaged in racing, instructing, coaching, or simply continuing the love for sailing! 💙🚤🌱
Each club has scooped up a nifty £2,000 grant for 2025 to boost their junior and youth initiatives, from maintaining gear to funding event travels. Here's what else they get:
🎫 Discounted Race Coach Level 2 courses📚 Resources galore for Race coached & instructors🧐 Instructor mentoring and access to Coach Development💰 Funding for sailor-focused junior and youth activities within the club
These hubs will prioritize open training accessible to all sailors in their region and are expected to:
🏆 Encourage participation in RYA Cymru Wales events, like the Welsh Regional Junior Championships (June), OnBoard Festival (August), and Welsh Youth & Junior Championships (September)🚣♀️ Provide resources, such as RIBs and coaching, for events🏆 Host and attend the Dragon Series🌟 Encourage youngsters into the Welsh Sailing Pathway classes: Optimist, RS Tera, Topper, RS Feva, BIC Techno, 420 and 29er
