Weinstein Convicted of Sexual Misconduct in New York Retrial

Revised Article:

Harvey Weinstein, disgraced film titan, found guilty of a criminal sexual act in a New York retrial.

In the latest chapter of his legal battle, a 73-year-old Weinstein was convicted of first-degree Criminal Sexual Act for a 2006 assault, yet acquitted on another count linked to Kaja Sokola.

However, the jury couldn't reach a verdict on an allegation of third-degree rape against Jessica Mann, leading to a mistrial on this charge, with the potential for a re-trial in the future[1].

Weinstein maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to all three charges, claiming he never coerced or assaulted anyone indecently.

The 2025 verdict came after an appeals court overturned his 2020 conviction last year[2]. He was initially accused of rape and forcing oral sex on multiple women[3].

The New York trial saw an extraordinary day, with the jury foreperson requesting a private meeting with the judge and Weinstein himself demanding the trial be halted, stating, "My life is on the line… it's time to say this trial is over."

Jurors had previously expressed strain, with one juror asking for dismissal due to a perceived unfair treatment, while another accused peers of pushing for decisions beyond the charges[4].

The controversy surrounding Weinstein sparked the #MeToo movement back in 2017, with some of his misconduct allegations resulting in criminal charges and convictions in New York and California[5].

Before the retrial, Weinstein was already serving a 16-year sentence in California after being found guilty of rape in December 2022[3]. He had also denied that charge.
