Last week, the junior weightlifters from across Germany descended upon the charming town of Sangerhausen for the West German Multi-Event Championships. The mixed bag of classic and athletic events attracted 37 athletes from the birth years 2010 to 2016, representing North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia.

Seven young lifters from ASV Herbsleben did Sangerhausen proud, collecting three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals for their Unstrut-Hainich delegation. Roughly 100 spectators were left in awe as five teams from the region vied for the team competition's top spot, with ASV securing third place.
Nick and Eddie Dreyße, the young guns of the Herbsleben junior team, took to the floor first. The brothers showed they meant business, with Eddie clinching gold and Nick settling for silver. Florian Braun (b. 2014) claimed third spot with 28 kg in the snatch and 35 kg in the clean and jerk.
Joe Krause and Theo Krauß (b. 2012) joined the fray next. Joe broke his previous personal best with a 25 kg snatch, finishing fifth. Theo, setting his own records in both events, seized the gold medal due to his athletic prowess and slightest bodyweight (39.4 kg).
Timo Braun (b. 2011) followed suit, setting personal bests in the snatch and clean and jerk to secure the bronze medal with 419 points. The competitors in the 2010 birth year group displayed a tense match, with Ole Dünnebeil from ASV Herbsleben and local star Louis Meyer of Sangerhausen trading blows.

During the athletic events, Ole Edged out his opponent by a mere two points. In the classic weightlifting disciplines, the outcome was ultimately determined. The Herbsleben prodigy raised the bar with a 73 kg snatch and a 95 kg clean and jerk, bagging the gold medal with a total of 610 points. Drained but thrilled, the athletes returned to their Thuringian homes, ready for their next challenge in Austria's Lochen (June 7-8).
