"I Would Have Loved to Hold Onto That Lead"

Wehen Wiesbaden and Aue share spoils in emotional 3. Liga farewell

Reactions from SV Wehen Wiesbaden head coach Daniel Scherning, returning player Florian Stritzel, and home coach Khvicha Shubitidze after their side's 2-2 draw against FC Erzgebirge Aue.

Florian Stritzel:

"It felt great to be back out on the pitch. Soaking up the atmosphere and everything around it—it's a different experience from training. The 2-2 is a bit bitter, though. I would have loved to hold onto that 2-1 lead and take the win home. In the end, Aue had three or four clear chances in front of our goal and finished them off ice-cold. They've always been a strong force in the second and third divisions. Their relegation is incredibly tough for the region."

Daniel Scherning:

"Our performance had its highs and lows. We could have done more—we just didn't manage to stay in the lead after scoring. If you can keep a team with its back against the wall under control and maintain that lead for longer, things get easier. We didn't pull that off, so we have to settle for the point. I feel terrible for the region losing this flagship club [from the 3. Liga]. I've had some real battles here with different teams, and Aue has always been an ambitious side in the second or third tier. But I'm convinced they'll bounce back into professional football, and we'll meet again."
