West Park Family Field Day
Kick off the weekend with the West Park Family Field Day, hosted by the Fairmount Park Conservancy. This free, all-ages event takes place at John Welsh Memorial Fountain, Avenue of the Republic, on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Youth sports activities, music, prizes, free face painting, and pay-as-you-go food trucks are all on offer. Registration is recommended.
Music Festivals
Music enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice this weekend. The Making Time Music Festival, an EDM extravaganza held annually at Fort Mifflin, returns from Friday, Sept. 19 to Sunday, Sept. 21. Over 120 artists will perform across three days, featuring Four Tet, Panda Bear, Moodymann, Boy Harsher, and Avalon Emerson, among others. Tickets cost $114 and up.
Meanwhile, the XPoNential Music Festival takes place at Wiggins Waterfront Park in Camden, New Jersey, from Friday, Sept. 19, to Sunday, Sept. 21. Headliners such as War, Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory, and Courtney Barnett will perform.
In Medford, New Jersey, the Medford Oktoberfest music festival celebrates music, food, and Bavarian culture. The event takes place at Freedom Park on Friday, Sept. 19, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 20, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Theatre Performances
The Delaware Theatre Company is presenting Ray Didinger's latest play, "Spinner," through Sunday, Oct. 5. Based on the true story of former Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins player Brian "Spinner" Spencer, the play delves into the tragic events that unfolded in 1970.
Meanwhile, at Academy of Music, 240 S. Broad St., 'Il viaggio a Reims' will be staged from Friday, Sept. 19, 26, 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 21, 28, 2 p.m. Tickets cost pick your price starting at $11.
Concerts
Adam Sandler's You're My Best Friend Tour will take place at Xfinity Mobile Arena (formerly Wells Fargo Arena), 3601 S. Broad St., on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $53 and up.
Alabama Shakes will perform at The Mann Center, 5201 Parkside Ave., on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $36 and up.
Kali Uchis' Sincerely, Tour will take place at Xfinity Mobile Arena (formerly Wells Fargo Arena), 3601 S. Broad St., on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $34 and up.
Blank Pages, an alt-pop rock band from Newark, Delaware, returns to The Crown at The Queen on Friday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. for a concert. Tickets cost $18.60.
Freddie Gibbs' Alfredo The Tour will take place at The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St., on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and up.
Bilal will perform at City Winery Philadelphia, 990 Filbert St., on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $45 - $70.
John Mulaney's Mister Whatever Tour will take place at The Met Philadelphia, 858 N. Broad St., on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $118 and up.
Special Events
Shepard Fairey's Uplift Justice Mural Dedication will take place at JFK Plaza Love Park, 1421 Arch St., on Friday, Sept. 19, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and is free to attend.
The Fall Equinox & Meditation Walk takes place at Laurel Hill Cemetery West, 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, Pa., on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registrants will be led on a guided walk, pausing at points for short meditations focused on transformation. The cost is $10 - $20.
The Ninth Annual South Philly Sausage Fest is a free, family and dog-friendly community celebration featuring food, local brews, live music, artisans, and more. It takes place at Broad Street and W. Passyunk Avenue on Saturday, Sept. 20, from noon to 7 p.m.
Lastly, Glenn Bryan and Friends will perform at Malcolm X Park, 5100 Pine St., on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. The event is free.
