Weekly Dose of Happiness: Highlights of this Week's Joyful Moments

Summer Fun Time!

June is here, and it's all about the chilled vibes and captivating friendships! Whether it's frogs, toads, or extra-terrestrial beings, we're embracing the inter-species bond this month.

In the real world, we're craving food for thought, a dose of punk, and dreams of a potent local government. The heat is on, and we're either jetting off on vacations or holed up indoors like hibernating bears. This month is about embracing the strange and savouring every moment.

Molly Odintz has been grooving to The Feelies' iconic album, "Crazy Rhythms" (1980). This hypnotic post-punk album never fails to get foot-tapping.

James Folta is fans of the latest Protean Magazine. Known for its inaugural hootenanny at the Verso offices, Issue V: Contra Temps, brings an array of perspectives on economics, social justice, and cultural critique. The magazine, embraced by intellectuals, critiques societal norms and offers enlightening discussions on complex subjects.

Catching a baseball game with a bunch of goofs is the perfect summer experience, according to Drew Broussard. Drew may not be a baseball fanatic, but spending quality time with friends is unbeatable. Hudson Valley Renegades – cheers to a cheerful raccoon family!

Oliver Scialdone enjoyed some quality family time over a scrumptious dinner at Santa Panza, Bushwick. The wood-fired pizza, craft cocktails, and fried squash blossoms – reminiscent of grandma's cooking – were a hit!

Jessie Gaynor couldn't help but feel inspired by Sarah Hartshorne's memoir, "You Wanna Be on Top? A Memoir of Makeovers, Manipulation, and Not Becoming America's Next Top Model." This audiobook, narrated by the author herself, offers a witty insight into Hartshorne's experience on America's Next Top Model. Whether you're a model enthusiast or a runner contending with disgusting weather, this book is an excellent motivator.

Emily Temple's travel story involves 20 hours of listening to Arnold Lobel's narration of "Frog and Toad Are Friends." Their charming adventures may be meant for children, but apparently, they also entertain three-year-olds and weary adults equally.

Dan Sheehan spent a delightful outing with his little triceratops watching (Cenumerateerrable) Lilo & Stitch – no comparison to the original, but it won the heart of his daughter, the concessions stand, the posters, and the popcorn too!

Olivia Rutigliano co-led a screenwriting workshop in Jamaica, organized by Strike Star Entertainment and the Jamaican Ministry of Culture. The trip was an exciting creative adventure filled with talented writers and film enthusiasts, made all the more special by romantic partners John Buffalo Mailer.

Brittany Allen has been escaping the summer heat with a marathon of library DVDs. Mississippi Masala, a romantic drama by Mira Nair about a Uganda-born Indian woman and a Black Southerner, brings a fresh perspective to the star-crossed lovers saga. The leads have the looks of the hottest Romeo and Juliet to ever grace the screen!

Another standout from Brittany's week was the impressive performance of Zohran Mamdani on the debate stage. Locals, (please) remember to make a voting plan!

Whether it's crazy feelings, adventurous excursions, or fried squash blossoms, just like nonna made, we're hoping you have a weekend filled with joy and excitement!
