CFL Week 10 Highlights: Thrilling Finishes, Upsets, and Clutch Performances
The Canadian Football League (CFL) Week 10 (early August 2025) was a rollercoaster ride of exciting finishes, upsets, and clutch performances. The BC Lions secured a much-needed victory, snapping a two-game losing streak and improving their record to 4-5, while the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, despite a valiant effort, fell to 5-4 but remained atop the Eastern Division.
In a game that showcased MVP-calibre play from Nathan Rourke, the Lions overcame a 41-38 victory against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in overtime. This thrilling encounter was a highlight for clutch performances and had significant implications for the Western Division race.
Several upsets and noteworthy performances shaped Week 10's fantasy and power rankings. Bo Levi Mitchell (Hamilton) and Nathan Rourke (BC) topped QB fantasy points, emphasising their impact on their teams' fortunes.
The power rankings for the CFL teams are determined by having 10 contributors rank each team from No. 1 to No. 9 independently, and then averaging out the scores. The BC Lions moved up to No. 4 in the rankings, while the Calgary Stampeders, with the returns of Vernon Adams Jr., Jalen Philpot, and Clark Barnes, climbed to No. 2.
The Calgary Stampeders secured a narrow 4-point victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, a game in which Brady Oliveira had over 100 yards receiving for the Blue Bombers, but it was not enough to secure the win. Sergio Castillo of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers kicked a 63-yard field goal, but it wasn't enough to secure a win for his team.
The Edmonton Elks also tasted victory, winning their second game of the season. Cody Fajardo found his Grey Cup MVP mojo on the final drive to lead the Elks to victory. Tyrell Ford of the Edmonton Elks secured an 87-yard interception-touchdown to end the first half.
The Ottawa Redblacks overcame a 21-point deficit to win their second game in a row, with Dru Brown of the Redblacks having a career-best game, throwing for 373 yards and five touchdowns, including the game-winner to Justin Hardy.
The Montreal Alouettes' time as the starter for McLeod Bethel-Thompson ended after another poor performance, with Caleb Evans taking over in the second half. The Alouettes lost to their former quarterback, causing embarrassment.
Week 10 ended with all games being decided by a single score in overtime or the final minute, including the Hamilton Tiger-Cats losing their six-game win streak in overtime against another team. Ryan Dinwiddie, coach of the Toronto Argonauts, criticised his team's performance post-game, describing them as "pretenders."
The Saskatchewan Roughriders maintained their No. 1 ranking after a bye week. The Montreal Alouettes, despite their recent struggles, remain in the playoff hunt in the West.
