Weekend's intense heat wave concludes with the arrival of thunderstorms

Have your sunscreen at the ready and grab a cold beverage, folks! This weekend it's gonna get HOT in Germany, with temperatures reaching up to 37°C in some regions, but don't let those glorious rays lull you into a false sense of security — this heatwave won't last long and it's bringing some stormy surprises.

Germany's enjoying a summer of blue skies, sunshine, and just the right amount of warmth. Nights are cool and pleasant, allowing for a sweet breath of fresh air to enter homes and apartments. But all that's about to change as scorching temperatures, originating in Spain and traveling north, make their way towards Germany.

On Saturday, kick off the summer solstice and longest day of the year, we'll see temperatures in the north reach a still resonable 26°C, while the southwest sweats away at a balmy 33°C. Coastal areas will provide a welcome respite with a maximum of 23°C.

But the real heatwave is yet to come. Sunday is looking a whole lot hotter, with most regions bracing for 30-34°C, and some sections along the Rhine potentially hitting 35-37°C, breaking previous records of 2025. While we won't be challenging the record-breaking 39.6°C from June 30, 2019 in Bernburg on the Saale, it's gonna be hotter than a firecracker out there!

And as the high temperatures unfurl, so too will the clouds, gathering in the west and northwest from the afternoon onwards. Thunderstorms could form, marking the beginning of a wild weather week.exact location, but some regions may witness hail, powerful wind gusts, and heavy rain — you know, the whole shebang.

The good news? After the heat crashes down on Monday, cooler air, wind, and further showers will roll into northern Germany, cooling things off to a comfortable 19°C, while the southeast will still sizzle at 30°C. The hot weather's not going anywhere fast, so settle in for a slow return to cooler climes.

Stay tuned for updates, and don't forget your umbrella!
