Hot and Sunny Weekend Ahead in Southern Germany, Thunderstorms Possible

The south of Germany is set to experience a warm and sunny weekend, with temperatures soaring above 30 degrees Celsius, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).

On Friday, the south will be mostly sunny, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees. However, the northern half of the country will see temperatures ranging from 20 to 26 degrees, with some clouds and occasional rain showers.

As we move into the weekend, temperatures in the south are expected to reach up to 34 degrees in the southwest. Individual thunderstorms are possible in the south over the weekend, with the risk of thunderstorms increasing due to the ongoing heatwave and local atmospheric instability.

The nights will still be quite cool, so jackets should not be left too far away, especially during the early morning hours.

Jacqueline Kernn from the DWD stated that the weather is suitable for swimming pools and lakes. However, sun protection is necessary due to the warm weather. Meteorologist Kernn warns that the persistent heat could become a problem for sensitive individuals.

The summer weather is expected to continue into the new week, with the second half of the week in large parts of Germany being sunny and summery. The broader heat dome effect is likely to cause hot and potentially unstable atmospheres, conducive to afternoon or evening thunderstorms, particularly in southern and central Germany where the heat is most intense.

Monitoring detailed local forecasts closer to the weekend is recommended for precise thunderstorm timing. The weather forecast does not mention any significant rainfall for the southern half of Germany. In the north, showers are expected.

Despite the potential for thunderstorms, the ongoing heatwave across much of Europe, including Germany, shows no signs of letting up, with temperatures in southern Germany forecasted to reach the mid to upper 30s Celsius by mid-August.

  • The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts that the weather in southern Germany will remain sunny and hot, with temperatures potentially reaching up to 34 degrees over the weekend.
  • As the heatwave continues, the risk of individual thunderstorms in the south might increase, making weather-forecasting essential for precise timing to avoid heavy storms during the weekend.
