Meanwhile, life in Iowa is far from idyllic for Emma. Her father, Flap, is neglecting his family duties while dabbling in infidelity, and she finds comfort in an illicit affair with the shy but married banker, Sam Burns. When she discovers Flap flirting with his colleague, Emma decides to return to her mother's home, bringing with her the chaos and heartache of her broken marriage.
Just when everything seems to be back on track, fate delivers a heavy blow. Aurora and Emma are forced to confront a brutal reality, leaving them - and the audience - emotionally battered yet profoundly affected.
