Weekend Film Event featuring Andrew Collins, airing on Saturday, 7th March 2015 at 5 pm
In an exciting new venture, award-winning writer and broadcaster, Andrew Collins, has taken on the role of film editor at our website. This week, Collins launched a weekly celebration of movie music that promises to showcase some of the most influential film composers and their iconic scores.
The first show of this weekly series began with a piece of music from the repertoire of John Barry, a legendary film composer whose work has graced numerous films over the years. The opening number, a personal favourite of Collins, was composed by Barry himself – the iconic theme from an unnamed film.
The show continued with a selection of classic film scores, including Maurice Jarre's memorable music from Lawrence of Arabia and Bernard Herrmann's haunting score from Psycho. The audience was also treated to pieces from John Williams' impressive portfolio, featuring themes from Jaws and Superman.
John Barry's music, long admired by Collins, now forms a permanent part of this weekly celebration. The composer's work, which spans an extensive film scoring career, adds depth and variety to the series, ensuring a rich and engaging listening experience for viewers.
As the series progresses, audiences can look forward to more timeless film scores and the chance to rediscover the magic of movie music. Tune in each week to join Andrew Collins on this musical journey through the history of cinema.
