Weekend crackdown by federal police in BPOL NRW: Enforcement of arrest warrants in border control operations
On Sunday morning, the Federal Police made a significant arrest at the A52 junction near Niederkrüchten. A 45-year-old Algerian, wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Leipzig for aggravated theft, was apprehended as a passenger on an international bus from Brussels to Warsaw.
Meanwhile, on September 5, 2025, another wanted individual was intercepted at Viersen station. A 34-year-old Afghan, who was registered in the Schengen Information System for return decisions by the Dutch authorities, was found to have an expired Dutch asylum document. Through fingerprints, it was discovered that this Afghan is also wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Traunstein for illegal entry. The Afghan was formally denied entry and taken into custody for further investigation, later being transferred to the prison in Willich for detention.
On a separate occasion, a 32-year-old Ukrainian entered the federal territory via the A3 on Friday. The Ukrainian is wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Gera for a violation of the Law on Ordinary Offenses. The Ukrainian was able to avoid a two-day prison sentence by paying a fine of €40.
The Afghan and Algerian cases underscore the importance of border controls, which were reintroduced at all land Schengen internal borders by the Federal Police on September 16, 2024, at the order of the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
The Federal Police Directorate is located in Sankt Augustin, and the Federal Police Inspectorate is based in Kleve. For more information, please contact the Federal Police at [email protected], (02821) 7451-0, or follow them on Twitter @BPOL NRW.
It's worth noting that the specific law enforcement authorities responsible for the prior convictions of the three individuals mentioned in this report are not detailed in the available sources. However, based on their nationalities, it is likely their respective national law enforcement or judicial authorities in Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Algeria were involved in processing these crimes.
The Federal Police continue to work diligently to maintain security and uphold the law within Germany's borders.
