Weekend Cinema Trip for Just Five Euros

The Film Festival action weekend is returning for its fourth year, offering movie lovers a chance to enjoy discounted screenings across Austria. This year's event, taking place on Saturday and Sunday, includes over 700 participating cinemas nationwide.

Some of the previews being shown are films that will be released on the big screen before their actual release, such as the comedy "Half Brother" with Christoph Maria Herbst, set to be released on September 18. The discounted screenings include current cinema films, classics, and these previews, providing a diverse range of options for moviegoers.

This year's action weekend comes amidst a reported decrease in the number of cinema tickets sold in the first half of 2025. According to the Film Funding Agency (FFA), around 40.6 million cinema tickets were sold, which corresponds to a decrease of three percent compared to the previous year, resulting in about 1.3 million fewer tickets sold.

Despite this decrease, the Film Festival action weekend continues to attract a large audience. In 2024, over 1.2 million visitors were counted at the event. Many cinemas are planning a colorful side program along with the discounted screenings to further entice visitors.

The Film Festival is organized by the industry associations HDF Kino and AllScreens in cooperation with other associations. This discounted screening action is part of the annual Film Festival, which has become a much-anticipated event in the Austrian cinema calendar.

So, whether you're a film enthusiast or simply looking for a fun and affordable weekend activity, the Film Festival action weekend is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of cinema. Be sure to check out the participating cinemas in your area and plan your visit today!

Some of the participating cinemas in Lower Austria include Acht Millimeter - Kino & Lokal Mank, Apollo Kino Stockerau, Grand Movie (Neunkirchen), Cinemaplexx Krems, CINEPLEXX AMSTETTEN, Cineplexx Westfield SCS (Wiener Neudorf), CINEPLEXX WIENER NEUSTADT, FILMBÜHNE WAIDHOFEN (Waidhofen an der Ybbs), Hollywood Megaplex St. Pölten, KINO mal vier WIESELBURG, Stadtkino-Center Picalek GesmbH (Ternitz), Star Movie Tulln, Waldviertler Kino Gmünd, and Waldviertler Kino Zwettl.
