Weekend Box Office Prediction: Thunderbolts Anticipated 53% Decrease
Graphic, Unfiltered Breakdown of the Weekend Box Office
Marvel's Thunderbolts will keep its crown, despite a 53% drop in ticket sales, expected to rake in around $35 million this weekend. But it's not all about the MCU antihero action spectacle – other newcomers are struggling to compete.
Clown in a Cornfield, directed by Eli Craig, is predicted to be the strongest challenger, according to Deadline, with an estimated $3.9 million from 2,277 theaters, landing it in the top 5.
Meanwhile, other films vying for a spot include Ryan Coogler's vampire thriller Sinners, projected by Deadline to earn a solid $22 million from 3,502 theaters in its second weekend. The Jack Black and Jason Momoa video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie is seen making $8.8 million, pushing its domestic take to $409.8 million, even though it's fast approaching a digital streaming release.
The only other newcomer expected to break into the top 10 is Josh Hartnett's action-packed Fight or Flight with a projected earnings of $2 million from 2,153 North American theaters, while Kerry Washington and Omar Sy's action thriller Shadow Force could make anywhere from $1.7 million to $2.7 million from 2,170 venues.
Now, let's take a closer look at Clown in a Cornfield. According to various sources, this horror comedy might open with around $3.6 million[1], or a slightly lower $3 million for the weekend and a total of about $6 to $7 million[2].
When compared to other new releases, “Shadow Force” is projected to start with about $2.9 million[1]. Fight or Flight and Juliet and Romeo are not expected to make a significant impact. However, Clown in a Cornfield could be a notable success for its distributor, RLJ Entertainment/Shudder, representing one of their more prominent releases[3][5].
On a side note, the documentary Wick Is Pain featuring Keanu Reeves as John Wick is now available on streaming platforms for all you Bloodshot fans who can't get enough of the action.
