Week 3 NFL Shifts: Significant Change in Bengals vs. Vikings Spread Due to Reserve Quarterbacks Taking the Field
Week 3 of the 2025 NFL Season: Injuries and Line Movement Shake Up the Landscape
As Week 3 of the 2025 NFL season approaches, several teams are facing challenges due to injuries to their starting quarterbacks.
The Cincinnati Bengals will be without Joe Burrow, who has been placed on injured reserve due to a toe injury requiring surgery. His absence could sideline him for up to three months or the remainder of the season. J.J. McCarthy of the Minnesota Vikings is also out, having sustained an ankle injury that is expected to keep him out for 2 to 4 weeks. Carson Wentz will start in his place.
New York Jets backup Tyrod Taylor is filling in for an injured Justin Fields, while Washington's Jayden Daniels is out, leaving the team to rely on deeper backups. The Pittsburgh Steelers are struggling with their defense and quarterback situation, but no specific quarterback injury has been reported beyond Carson Wentz stepping in for the Vikings.
Meanwhile, the NFL line movement for Sunday's games has caused notable shifts. The over/under for the Detroit Lions at Baltimore Ravens game has increased from 49.5 to 52.5, the highest total of the Week 3 slate. In contrast, the over/under for the Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers game has decreased from 46.5 to 43.5.
On the field, several teams have made impressive starts to the season. The Indianapolis Colts, led by Daniel Jones, have won their first two games against the Dolphins and Broncos. Jones has completed over 70% of his passes and accumulated five total touchdowns.
However, not all teams have been as fortunate. The Tennessee Titans are 0-2 after losing to Denver and Los Angeles to begin the year. Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick by the Titans, has barely completed 50% of his passes and has just one touchdown and less than 300 passing yards.
Elsewhere, the Dallas Cowboys put up 40 points last week and are now favored against the Bears. The San Francisco 49ers' Brock Purdy's status for Week 3 is uncertain. Lamar Jackson is having a good season for the Ravens, contributing to their wins.
In an unexpected twist, the Panthers, who opened as 1.5-point favorites at home over the Falcons, have seen their odds significantly change, with the Falcons now 5.5-point favorites.
The NFL season continues to unfold with its share of twists and turns. Stay tuned for more updates as Week 3 progresses.
