Weather shift in summer predictions: sun alternating with storms

Germany is bracing for a change in weather, as a deep cold wave sweeps across central Europe, bringing cooler temperatures and potential stormy conditions. According to Marcel Schmid, a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD), this weather turnaround is due to an offshoot of an Azores high moving towards Central Europe.

Temperatures in the north and northwest of Germany are expected to be cooler than the rest of Central Europe, ranging from 20 to 24°C. However, the warmer temperatures, which could reach up to 29°C by Friday, will not significantly affect the north and northwest, as they may experience slightly changeable weather due to the proximity of low-pressure systems over Northern Europe.

The weather conditions in Central Europe are expected to improve and become warmer by mid-week, signalling a return to summery weather. However, potential storm or severe weather conditions may occur due to frontal systems associated with this cold wave moving across the region. Showers or thunderstorms are possible as the cold air interacts with existing warm air masses, especially midweek.

Campers along the coast are advised to secure their accommodations due to potential storm force winds. The winds are expected to be southwesterly to westerly, and the weather is expected to be changeable over the weekend and into the start of next week.

Despite the cooler weather, the sun is expected to make a generous appearance as the week progresses, with temperatures becoming gradually warmer. The weather forecast for Germany from Tuesday to Friday indicates highs around the mid-20s Celsius (low to mid-70s °F), which is 4-8°C below normal, particularly in southern and central parts of Germany, compared to typical early August conditions.

In summary, expect cooler, unsettled weather with some risk of storms or heavy showers across Germany between Tuesday and Friday, with temperatures notably below average for this time of year due to a deep cold trough extending into Europe. Stay tuned for further updates from the DWD.

  1. The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts more changeable weather due to the proximity of low-pressure systems over Northern Europe, which could result in potential storm or severe weather conditions by midweek.
  2. As the cold air interacts with existing warm air masses, showers or even thunderstorms are possible across Germany, especially midweek, according to the weather forecast from the German Weather Service (DWD).
